Draped in traditional bridal attire adorned in shades of pink and gold, against the scenic backdrop of outdoor gardens and the Bolgoda waters, she has become the talk of the town on social media. This follows popular actress and dancer Dishni Rajapaksha embarking on the newest chapter of her life.
It is reported that she has entered into wedlock with Rajith, the son of her father's elder sister.
Glimpses of this union were also seen last July, when Dishni shared details on the internet of a photoshoot conducted at Cinnamon Life, unveiling a destination wedding style celebration for the new couple.
Dishni (Umariyo, also known as Umangi) Rajapaksha is not merely confined to looks and acting. Born around 1999 in Kurunegala and educated at Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, she also served as the captain of the school netball team. A prominent figure in drama and dance troupes, Dishni clinched first place at the All-Island Ballet Dance Competitions for five consecutive years.
Her parents, Gamini and Senani Rajapaksha, initially preferred to see her focus on her education rather than turn towards modelling or acting. Dishni, who has two sisters named Yashodhara and Sarala, managed to strike a fine balance between her parents' expectations and her artistic ambitions. Accordingly, it is noted that she completed a Master's degree in Child Psychology and Education in Australia.
Having won the Miss Sri Lanka crown in 2019 and the Miss Queen of International Tourism title in 2020, she gained widespread popularity in the entertainment scene through Hiru Mega Stars Season 3, which aired around 2021-22. Productions such as Eka Dawasaka Api (2018), Soosthi (2020), Aale Corona (2021), Peacock Lament (2022) where she portrayed the role of Renu, and Seeru Ven (2024), as well as works connected to the teledrama Ravana, stand out as significant milestones in her acting career.
With the confirmation of her real-life wedding ceremony, an end has naturally been put to rumours that circulated around 2021-22. Following the Mega Stars stage, a bridal photo collection featuring Dishni alongside popular actor and singer Sooriya Dayaruwan (Sooriyaloka), known for works like Kaala, Happy Birthday, and Divithura, was propagated by YouTube channels as a secret wedding. Rumours had also circulated regarding an alleged connection between her and popular actor Channa Perera.
However, despite causing a stir across media circles, those rumours did not go far. It has been revealed that she culminated a six-year romance into marriage with Rajith, the son of her father's elder sister. On their wedding day, she shared that Rajith calls her 'Sudu Ammi' while she affectionately addresses him as 'Appachchi'. Dishni also did not forget to give a special place to her pet dog on her big day.
